Latest Updates from Our Project:

Kickstarter Live (Feb 3 @ 8:30 PM CT) & One Last Stretch Goal!
about 5 years ago – Sat, Feb 02, 2019 at 11:53:37 PM

Hey Everyone!

As we approach $10,000 in funding, we are getting really excited for the final days of the campaign. We have a few really fun updates for everyone tonight, so let's get to it!

Kickstarter Live

Jeff (that's me!) will be holding a Kickstarter Live chat with backers and others on Sunday, February 3rd @ 8:30 - 9:30 PM Central Time. Come hear a bit more about Destination Danger, the Primer System, how to get comfortable as a Game Master, and more. Also, bring your questions and we will do our best to answer as many of them as possible.

If you have questions already brewing, feel free to post some in the comments of this update. Don't hesitate to drop in whenever you get a chance - I'm always THRILLED to meet our supporters!

One Final Stretch Goal

Note: Design is NOT Final
Note: Design is NOT Final

I believe we've mentioned this before, but one of the most common comments we hear from gamers when they hear about Destination Danger is something along the lines of, "This sounds so fantastic, but I'm incredibly intimidated to be the game master (GM)...How do you get good at that? Does the game help me?" The brief answer is "Yes", but we have thought long and hard about whether we could do even more to help aspiring GMs get more comfortable with running Destination Danger on their own.

To address that, we've decided to add a new stretch goal for the Field Guide, which will replace the fold-out instruction sheet (our previous plan) with a more elaborately themed booklet (yes, booklet) that will include a plethora of support for those who decide to take the role of game master. That will include tips & tricks, our advice on great ways to kick off a game, general guidance on how to really screw with your players for some extra fun, and more!

For those who played "Uncharted", think of something akin to Nathan Drake's notebook (though probably not leather...and a better balance of text to imagery). [Ref: "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End", Naughty Dog Entertainment]

If unlocked, the Field Guide will replace the instruction manual in every physical copy of the game and will also be available for PnP (though likely on a very different schedule than promised for PnP version of the game itself). We deliberated whether or not to do this for several days (as it is a significant commitment to put together), and we ultimately decided that the Field Guide will reduce the intimidation new GMs feel, and help everyone enjoy Destination Danger even more.

How Can You Help?

For those who would like to support us, consider posting the banner below (with a link to the Kickstarter Campaign) on your social media profile of choice! We would love it if you also mentioned us (@gmoongames on Twitter, Guardian Moon Games on Facebook) so we can thank you for your support.

Our goal for this campaign was to ensure Destination Danger found its way into the world, and your support is making sure that we get there! We would love to continue making games in the Primer System (of which DD is the first) as well as other unique tabletop games for all of us to enjoy, and helping this campaign be as successful as possible will go a long way to making that happen.

Thank you all again for your incredible support of our project!

BIG UPDATE: "Rumble in the Jungle" UNLOCKED and lots more!
about 5 years ago – Fri, Feb 01, 2019 at 04:22:19 AM

Hey Everyone!

SOOOO many things to share, so here's what to look for in this update:

  • "Rumble in the Jungle" = UNLOCKED! & a second "Get in the Game" pledge tier
  • What's the NEXT stretch goal?
  • Additional Consuelo artwork
  • Recent play-test feedback

"Rumble in the Jungle"

"Rumble in the Jungle" is now unlocked and will ship to each backer who pledged at the "Game +" level or higher. We are THRILLED! This also means that we will be opening a second "Get in the Game" pledge tier (1 backer, $250 pledge) for anyone who would like to collaborate with us on the design of one of the characters in that expansion! You could base the character on yourself, a loved one, your nemesis...or any other character you love!

We will launch this new pledge tier ("Get in the Game pt. 2") at 10:00 AM Central Time on Friday, February 1st (that's tomorrow). You are currently unable to see the pledge level on the campaign - Kickstarter will launch this new reward at the right time, automagically.

More Stretch Goals?!?!

We've received several messages asking if this is "the end of stretch goals". Our simple answer is that we are working on a couple of fun options that we intend to add to the campaign within the next day or two.

Some of our initial plans have been thwarted as we learn more about some manufacturing limitations we were not anticipating, so we are a day or two behind where we want to be on announcing something new. To be transparent, we are investigating game storage options, whether we want to add some cards to give the GM some additional firepower (i.e. traps or lucky breaks to throw a wrench in a campaign), or if it makes sense to add another player character or two.

More will be forthcoming in the next couple of days, just know that we intend to make the game the best it can be before we say we are done!

Additional Consuelo Artwork

Consuelo is looking REALLY great - Lindsey is doing fantastic stuff in developing the character. In the image above, Consuelo is holding some surveying gear and we get a shiny hint as to what her weapon of choice might be... 😄

Recent Playtest Feedback

Earlier this week, I sat down with a  couple friends over lunch and we played a quick (30 minute) campaign from Destination Danger. My players had never played a tabletop role-playing game before, so it was a really great group to test the game with. Here are a couple quotes:

"I read about the game and was intrigued...but playing Destination Danger was honestly more fun than I expected. I hadn't seen the cards or characters before, so it was surprising how quickly we could jump into a game!"

"Destination Danger was a fun mix of strategy and improv. I really enjoyed the problem solving elements while getting wrapped up in the story line as the game developed."

"The game was fast paced and we just jumped right into it. I left feeling a boost of creativity and looking forward to the next round."

That kind of feedback (along with a few constructive notes) really helps motivate us to make sure the game successfully gets out to all of you! THANK YOU for helping this journey happen - we clearly could not do this without your support!

5 Days to Go: "Rumble in the Jungle" Nearly Unlocked & a First Look at Consuelo
about 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 31, 2019 at 11:35:16 AM

Hey Everyone!

It's the final stretch, with 5 days left to raise funds and help Destination Danger be as complete as it can be!

Where are we on unlocking Expansion #2 (stretch goal)?

We are INCREDIBLY close to unlocking our final stretch goal, the "Rumble in the Jungle" expansion (only about $100 away). Once that is unlocked, we will add another "Get in the Game" pledge tier (limited to 1 backer) where we will co-create one of the expansion's characters alongside whomever is willing to jump in and fund! More information will come available once the expansion is officially unlocked, but this will run very similarly to how we ran the first one (see our last update for some insight).

 Meet Consuelo

Lindsey Alvord, our fantastic artist, has been hard at work bringing Consuelo to life. For those who have recently joined us on the campaign, Consuelo is our first bonus character unlocked by funding the campaign the first weekend (before the end of PAX South 2019). Let's introduce her again:

Consuelo is a Panamanian woman who was an apprentice of her father, an respected engineer on the Panama Canal's construction and operation. Consuelo became an extremely competent engineer and general mechanic, known for her ability to solve the big challenges. Once the canal complete, she felt drawn beyond the borders of her homeland, to see what new opportunities would present themselves. Since then, she has been traveling the world, fixing machines and building new wonders along the way.

We are THRILLED with this early concept work for Consuelo, and are really excited to continue fleshing out such fantastic character. As a reminder, Consuelo will be present in all versions of the game, across all pledge tiers.

Thanks to ALL OF YOU for your support of Destination Danger. Don't forget to encourage your family and friends to jump into the campaign so they don't miss out!

First expansion UNLOCKED! and details on the new Custom Character Reward Tier!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Jan 28, 2019 at 07:01:13 AM

Hey Everyone!

We've got TWO major items for you in this update - make sure you read to the end!

Expansion #1 is UNLOCKED!

The first expansion, "Christmas on Easter Island" has been unlocked and will be delivered to all backers at the Game+ reward tier ($50 USD) and higher!

Here's a quick tease of the campaign:

"It's December 25th, 1935 at 9:13 a.m. on the island of Rapa Nui, also known as Easter island. Near an Archaeological site of several moai (gigantic, stone heads & figures), a group of people have gathered - almost all of them are dressed as Santa Claus. On closer inspection, it looks like two of them are holding guns."

We have one additional major stretch goal expansion to unlock, and 10 more days to do it. Even if a handful of existing backers upgrade their reward, we are very likely to get there soon and may consider a few other stretch objectives to continue improving the game before we're done with the campaign!

Details on the "Collaborate on a Character" Reward Tier for Expansion #1

As promised, now that "Christmas on Easter Island" is unlocked we will introduce a new reward tier with the following description:

"Get In the Game

You're getting the game and all the swag, but that's still not quite enough for someone like you! You're so invested that you want to be a part of the adventure and help us bring a new character to life! Help us design a character for the Destination Danger expansion "Christmas on Easter Island"! We will work with you to design the character (their background, physical look, name, items, special skills, etc) that will be enjoyed by gamers across the world! You'll receive credit as a collaborator on this game, and any others that might use this new character."

This reward tier DOES NOT EXIST YET on the campaign, and will be available starting January 27th @ 9am CT (that's tomorrow). It will be available to only ONE backer at $250 USD.

NOTE: once the second expansion, "Rumble in the Jungle", unlocks we will introduce another reward tier for a collaboration on that campaign. (Yes, we did say "once" - we have that much confidence we will get there.) 😄

That is it for today...thank you all for your support. Let your friends and family know that there is no better time to join Destination Danger!

Alternative Maps UNLOCKED!!! and a new Reward Tier coming soon!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 24, 2019 at 09:03:23 AM

Hey Everyone!

We are checking off Stretch Goals - the Alternative Maps have officially been unlocked! After talking with many gamers during play tests and at PAX South, we received some really positive input that variable maps for the campaigns could really enhance replay value and bring a fresh feel to the campaigns over time - and thanks to each of you and your support, each copy of Destination Danger will have two maps per campaign!

As for the upcoming stretch goals, we are very quickly moving toward unlocking our first expansion - "Christmas on Easter Island"!  Let's keep this thing going!

What is this about a new Reward Tier?

As we continue work on the expansions for Destination Danger and have had backers ask us how if we can tell them more about the characters. Well, we’d love to, but we also thought it would be pretty great if some of our most excellent backers could help us flesh out some of the new player characters and non-player characters (NPCs)!

SO, once we unlock the new expansions, we will introduce a new reward tier with a limited number of slots (or a couple - how we logistically handle that will be up to Kickstarter’s peculiarities...). Backers at this reward tier will be contacted so we can start co-developing the new characters coming in the stretch goal expansions, which may mean they will be based off of those individuals, their loved ones, or just the type of character they would love to play in the Destination Danger universe.

Logistically, we will announce when this new reward tier (or tiers...again, we’ll figure that out soon) will go live so everyone has an opportunity to jump in should they want to.

Sound off in the comments and questions! Does anything not make sense? Have we missed an important detail of how you’d want that kind of collaboration to be executed?

Let us know, and let’s keep unlocking stretch goals!!!

Courage!
