Status Report (2019.03.18) - Pledge Manager Minor Delay & Playmats!
5 months ago – Mon, Mar 18, 2019 at 09:35:15 PM

First and foremost, I apologize that this was a day late. We were unable to meet as a dev team until this evening and I wanted to make sure we had a few details ironed out before sending this out!

Tl;dr: The pledge manager will be delayed ~ one week. We are adding DD themed playmats as add-ons. General development progress updates, including an introduction to Veronica (from Christmas on Easter Island). We need play testers in Houston and online!

Pledge Manager

Hopefully I was transparent enough about a potential delay, and I was unfortunately right... The good news is we are now getting the final information we need from our manufacturing partner to tidy up some of the BackerKit information and we are testing surveys and getting feedback on some of the add-on details. We will launch either later this week or early next, and either way I will send a brief update out ~24 hours before you should start seeing the BackerKit surveys hit your inbox.

Since I've been asked, I will re-iterate that you will be able to purchase multiple copies (max quantity TBD based on shipping limitations) of Destination Danger with and without the expansions, additional signed art prints, and.....

Playmats!

Based on the survey we sent out in a previous update, we are manufacturing Destination Danger playmats as an add-on product. It’s an accessory that we really enjoy for games when you have quite a few cards on the table, so we wanted to make one that you can enjoy while playing Destination Danger!

The Destination Danger playmat is a 14x24 inch, 2mm thick rubber mat, with a stitched edge. This is a optional add-on for those of you that enjoy the feel a dedicated playing surface that makes picking up cards easier and provides a slightly higher friction surface preventing shuffling of all of the Destination Danger cards you'll be placing in front of you.

This playmat will be shipped alongside copies of the game, but will clearly not fit in the tuck box alongside your cards. 😉 Below is a renderings of the playmat to give you an idea of what it will look like.

Development Updates

The Field Guide and a bunch of artwork is under furious development right now. Alternative Maps are looking really good (which we'll share in an update soon), and will provide quite a bit of variation/complexity to games beyond the initial maps we initially developed. The Digital Dangers are also going full speed, including really great 3D printing files, unique screen savers that pull you into the scenes from the game, and more.

The expansions are also progressing incredibly well, and we'd like to introduce everyone to Veronica, our co-developed player character for the Christmas on Easter Island campaign:

Veronica will steal your heart—as well as any information, military plans, or stolen property you have about. She works for the Persephone Agency, a private counterespionage firm, as a retrieval artist, so when important things wander away, she brings them back quickly and quietly, no questions asked. Trained in karate during her youth in the Orient, Veronica also has a penchant for breaking and entering, which suggests training in...something else. Her steel resolve and unwavering diligence are only shaken by her unnatural fear of the unnatural. She knows that she is the not the only thing that lurks in the dark.

Weapon of Choice: Silenced handgun

Thanks again to Chad Kroll, our AMAZING backer, who has been developing Veronica with Jon after picking up the first Get in the Game pledge tier! We will share artwork for Veronica as soon as we have something exciting to share.

WE NEED PLAY TESTERS!

Jon has quite a bit of play testing to still do and will be opening up a bunch of slots in mid-April for both in-person and online games. If you want to volunteer, let us know by shooting an email over to GuardianMoonGames@gmail.com. In-person games will be across the Houston, Texas metro area - we'll try and switch it up and be at a couple different locations.

If you would like to be in the loop on when additional play testing sessions are going to take place, join our Destination Danger Facebook community page! Jon and I will be posting most of those invitations there vs. spamming everyone across the world going forward. Again, we hope the community becomes a great place for sharing awesome stories and helping ensure everyone has the best game sessions possible...so join now and be a part of the conversation!

Next Update

The next update will be sent within the next week, once we are ready to launch the pledge manager. Again, we will give everyone ~24 hours notice before it goes out. Until then, if you have any questions or concerns, email us at GuardianMoonGames@gmail.com.

Status Report (2019.03.10) - Early Character Art & Other Updates
5 months ago – Sun, Mar 10, 2019 at 10:22:22 PM

TL;DR: Lots of progress on the Field Guide. Some draft character art from the Rumble in the Jungle expansion. A few reminders, including looking for Houston-based play testers. Pledge manager survey's are likely to hit March 18th.

Field Guide

Progress on the expansion campaigns and new characters has been moving along very nicely and we've pushed some work to our illustrators, so Jon has diverted some of his focus to progressing on the Field Guide! The "instructions" section, how to use player statistics, and some basic guidance for first time GMs is generally complete.

We are actively churning on the more advanced stuff that will give players a lot of replayability, and certainly provide GMs a lot of options for how they might want to run their campaigns. The goal is to provide all of the tools and support people need to have a great game and to come back to the Destination Danger campaigns often.

Character Art

We introduced our player character from the Rumble in the Jungle expansion in our last update, and here is some early character art for everyone:

Character details are certainly still subject to change, but here's a sneak peak!

WE NEED PLAYTESTERS!

Do you live in Houston, TX?! If you do and you also want to volunteer as a play tester, let us know by shooting an email over to GuardianMoonGames@gmail.com. We have expansions to play test and need additional feedback on the Field Guide while it is in progress...and likely lots lots more - any play test help is incredibly appreciated!

Note: we may do some virtual play tests in the future, so if you DO NOT live in Houston keep your eyes on this space for additional requests.

Pledge Manager

We are still targeting March 18th for the pledge manager. We are working out a few details with manufacturers and, unfortunately, the response rate has been slower than expected, which means we may be about 50/50 on whether that date will slip. We hope that isn't the case, but we want to be very transparent with all of you so there aren't any surprises. More to come!

A Few Reminders

Don't forget to participate in our Add-On survey to help us know what types of add-ons you might like to see in the pledge manager once it goes live. So far we're seeing some love for Destination Danger themed playmate and travel notebooks.

Additionally, if you're up for it, join our Destination Danger Facebook community page which will long outlive this Kickstarter. We hope the community becomes a great place for sharing awesome stories and helping ensure everyone has the best game sessions possible!

Next Update

The next update will be sent out on Sunday, March 17th. Until then, if you have any questions or concerns, email us at GuardianMoonGames@gmail.com.

Status Report (2019.03.03) - Upcoming Surveys and Development Progress!
6 months ago – Sun, Mar 03, 2019 at 10:40:27 PM

 Hey Backers!

We are in continuous amazement to have received such support from all of you throughout the campaign, whether it be through private messages, sharing our story with gaming blogs, or encouraging and your friends and family to join in. Campaigns for brand new companies are incredibly hard - we have no established credibility and are doing much of this for the very first time (which is challenging, no matter how many blogs you read on how to do it well).

Your support is incredibly uplifting and helped us in our belief we could make this happen. Kickstarter is great in that you not only find people to help fund a project, you find a small community of supporters that are willing to go above and beyond to help a project happen. At the risk of gushing, THANK YOU for all of the support (financial and otherwise) in making Destination Danger a reality!

UPDATES

OK, the real reason most of you want to read this - here's the tl;dr synopsis: Game development is going really well on the expansions and the core game is nearly complete (except for the Field Guide) and Alternative Maps are being developed. We will be using BackerKit as our pledge manager and pre-order portal (target survey date = March 18). Help us know what add-ons you might want in the pledge manager.

Game Development

Though we went a bit dark the last few weeks, we have continued working on Destination Danger in preparation for Manufacturing. Consuelo (our bonus character unlocked by funding the campaign its first weekend) has a fully completed background and completed artwork. The core game (minus Field Guide - that will come later) is nearly complete!

The expansion campaigns are progressing really well and are ready for general play testing. Jon will be running those play tests while he continues formalizing each of the characters, NPCs, and items for each campaigns to make sure they are fun and offer balanced play across the other campaigns (as you can mix and match characters/items/etc...). Once complete, we will get everything over to our artists to bring things to life!

You may remember the "Get in the Game" pledge tiers, that we are collaborating with a few backer on characters for these expansions. Jon is actively co-developing with these amazing backers, and we felt it would be fun to share an update. We will withhold the name until we have some artwork (as I believe it is intended to be a surprise for a loved one), but here is the bio of the player character for our Rumble in the Jungle expansion:

?????  is privy to some of the best kept secrets in the world—including those of her own past. Currently posing as a librarian from Puerto Rico, she travels the world collecting information that others would prefer stay hidden. She knows the location of a certain rich caliph's tomb, the name of the Italian ambassador's lover, and even who has the best egg rolls in Shanghai. You can know too—if you have something to trade for it. ????? works from the edges, letting others to do the dirty work; in fact, few even know her name, but everyone knows to ask for "the Curator." Her methods are unscrupulous, her will unshakable, and her reach unfathomable.

Regarding alternative maps - Trevan reached out and locked in Worth Dayley (formerly an environment artist on Disney Infinity) to work with us, and we are THRILLED with some of the early concepts we have seen. We will start sharing some of these as soon as we can.

Pledge Manager - BackerKit

Now that you have backed Destination Danger, in the coming weeks you will receive a link to a survey which will allow you to input your shipping address so that we know where to send your reward.  The survey will also allow you to change your pledge to a higher tier, and add more things on to your pledge (yes, you can pick up multiple copies of the game).  All available add-ons and options will be described in more detail there.  You will be able to change your shipping address in the pledge manager at any time right up until fulfillment begins.

To manage pledges and allow for add-ons and pre-orders, we will be using BackerKit as our pledge management service.   BackerKit is one of the industry leaders in pledge management services and they do an excellent job managing user security and privacy.

To be transparent, we are not rushing getting the survey out the door. A screwed up survey create a lot of unnecessary work for us and a major headache for backers - we are valuing quality over speed.  Our target date for Pledge Manager survey send out is March 18, 2019.

"BUT WHAT IF MY PLEDGE WAS DROPPED?" A small number of you did receive an email from Kickstarter saying there was a problem with your payment, and that you were dropped. This happens with every Kickstarter campaign and our message to you is do not panic! We've got you covered and you can be added to the pledge manager as a backer if you email us at guardianmoongames@gmail.com - we will make sure you are taken care of.

Wait...go back. You mentioned "Add-Ons"???

We are in the process of deciding the types of add-ons we will add to the pledge manager. In fact, we could use your help! Before we take the BackerKit survey live - help us understand what is appealing to you by providing your feedback on the types of add-ons you would be most interested in picking up.

We cannot make any promises on what we will or will not be adding to the pledge manager, but we will certainly look heavily at any particular item that the community is really interested in.

Next Update

The next update will be sent out on Sunday, March 10th. Until then, if you have any questions or concerns, email us at GuardianMoonGames@gmail.com.

Funding Complete! THANK YOU!!
6 months ago – Wed, Feb 06, 2019 at 12:54:09 PM

Saying THANK YOU doesn't feel like enough, but we suppose it's a place to start. We cannot begin to express how grateful we are to each of you for your support, and we want nothing more than to do right by you as we go into the next phase of development. Destination Danger has crossed a major hurdle, but there is a lot more work for us to do over here at Guardian Moon Games - and we are PUMPED!

There are so many people who need to be thanked for the success of this campaign - most notably our families and friends who have supported our creativity and the hard work that has gone into making Destination Danger a reality. We'd also like to thank our fantastic artists: Lindsey Alvord, Andy Rich, Ryan Nimtz, and Billy Garretsen. And a big thank you to all of those who have helped us play-test the game, allowed us into their FLGS to demo and meet with players, and all of the individuals who spread the story of Destination Danger across the internet - you are true heroes!

What Comes Next?

1) First and foremost, we need a couple days to recover from the work surrounding a Kickstarter campaign and regroup on all of the additional work ahead of us. We have expansions to write, play-test, and finalize... We have a lot of additional artwork that needs to be completed... And so so so much more.

2) Kickstarter will begin processing payments to the credit card attached to your account. Our understanding is that this may take a while, especially if they run into a problem. If this does happen, contact Kickstarter immediately for support - we are unfortunately completely unable to assist on our end.

3) We will likely go quiet for about three weeks while we work a more thorough plan for the work remaining before we can start shipping out copies of Destination Danger to each of you. Once we are back, expect a more thorough outline of how we will approach a Backer Survey, Production, and Fulfillment.

We absolutely commit to full transparency of any development issues that arise, timeline challenges that threaten to delay us, or any exciting updates that we decide to make as we finalize the product.

So, How Will We Stay In Touch?

We will continue to post update (like this one) on Kickstarter, and we also encourage you all to join the new Destination Danger Community on Facebook

That community will be open for group discussion to share stories on the exploits of your crew as you experience each campaign, discuss Discord meetups for running online games, and to ask for tips and support (especially if you're a new GM). The intent is to be a social and casual community for those who want to engage, and we will support the community as y'all come together.

Wait...I'm Too Late?! I Just Heard About Destination Danger - Can I Still Buy It?

Unfortunately the campaign is now over, but we will be setting up the ability to preorder the game via other mechanisms in the near future. We will post an update to the Kickstarter and the Destination Danger Community on Facebook once we have details to share.

Any Final Updates to Share Before "Going Dark"?

YES! We have some additional artwork for Consuelo, from our AMAZING artist Lindsey Alvord. This artwork is nearly final (a couple minor tweaks perhaps, but we're nearly there), so hopefully you like the look of our Panamanian Engineer!

Thank you again from the whole team for making Guardian Moon Games and Destination Danger a reality!

If you have any questions or concerns, you can email us at guardianmoongames@gmail.com or message us on Facebook. We will get back within everyone in the coming weeks.

The Field Guide UNLOCKED!
7 months ago – Tue, Feb 05, 2019 at 03:57:11 PM

This is it, it's the final day of the Destination Danger campaign! You have approximately 24 hours to lock in your pledges before the campaign comes to an end, and then we are off to the races on manufacturing, fulfillment, etc... Before we get there, however, we have one exciting update!

Destination Danger Field Guide -- UNLOCKED!

Note: Artwork is not final
Note: Artwork is not final

That's right - the FINAL stretch goal of the campaign has unlocked and we have all of the components finalized. The Field Guide should be a great support for Game Masters, both experienced and new to role-paying, as the run their first Destination Danger campaigns. As a reminder, the Field Guide will be part of all copies of the game, including the Print and Play.

We will continue to share updates on the Field Guide and all of the other components still in development so each of you feel a part of the experience as we bring it all together. That will be a mix of artwork, some insight into the expansion campaign story lines, etc...

Thank you all for helping us hit this important stretch target - let's close out this campaign in style!

Courage!
